- OpenAI rolled out GPT-6 in ChatGPT on October 7, 2026 for paid plans and October 8 for Free and Go.
- Free and Go get GPT-6 Luna; Plus, Pro, Business and Enterprise get GPT-6 Sol, in the Chat tab.
- Intelligent UI lets answers include interactive charts, forms, checklists and small tools like calculators.
- OpenAI says GPT-6 starts answering sooner, searches more reliably and refuses fewer harmless requests.
OpenAI has brought GPT-6 to ChatGPT, and the biggest change is not only a smarter model: answers can now come with interactive charts, buttons, forms and small tools built right into the chat. OpenAI calls this Intelligent UI. Here is what changed, which version you get on each plan, and what it means if you use ChatGPT for work or content. This is an explainer based on OpenAI's announcement and press coverage.
When did GPT-6 arrive in ChatGPT?
OpenAI started rolling GPT-6 out in ChatGPT on October 7, 2026 for paid plans, and on October 8 for Free and Go users. GPT-6 models had already been released to some paid customers in September.
Which GPT-6 do you get? Sol vs Luna
| ChatGPT plan | Model in the Chat tab |
|---|---|
| Free, Go | GPT-6 Luna |
| Plus, Pro, Business, Enterprise | GPT-6 Sol |
Both are tuned for everyday conversation, according to OpenAI. The update applies to the Chat experience only: the models behind ChatGPT's Work and Codex features did not change in this release. On Enterprise, access depends on the admin's settings.
What is Intelligent UI?
Until now, ChatGPT mostly answered in text, sometimes with a table or an image. With Intelligent UI, the model can decide that an answer works better as an interface and build it as it writes. Examples shared at launch include:
- An interactive diagram of a bicycle where you tap each system (frame, wheels, drivetrain, brakes) to learn about it
- A Sunday roast plan with dish images, a shopping calculator that scales with the number of guests, and a cooking-timeline checklist
- Small tools on request, such as a savings calculator, a bill splitter or a simple game
- Charts, maps, forms and checklists inside answers
The interface appears progressively while the answer streams, and a plain text answer is still possible when that fits better. Reports say you can tone the visuals down if you prefer text.
What else is better?
According to OpenAI's own evaluations:
- Faster first words: GPT-6 starts answering before it finishes thinking. For questions that need web search, GPT-6 Instant starts answering 44% sooner on average than GPT-5.6 Instant.
- Better search decisions and more reliable sourcing.
- Stronger safety against high-risk misuse, with fewer unnecessary refusals of harmless requests.
- More honest about limits: better at saying what it doesn't know or can't do.
These are company claims; independent tests will tell how much difference users really notice.
What it means for creators and small businesses
- Planning gets more visual. Content calendars, budgets or launch checklists can come back as interactive tools instead of long text.
- Quick calculators without code. Pricing estimates, ROI or savings calculators can be built in a chat to test an idea.
- Writing is still the core job. For drafting articles, scripts and posts, the main gain is speed and better sourcing rather than the new interface.
If you compare assistants, Anthropic's Claude has a similar idea with artifacts: documents, dashboards and small apps that open beside the chat. See what Claude can do for a side-by-side view of features.
The bottom line
GPT-6 makes ChatGPT faster and, more visibly, more interactive: answers can now be small apps, charts and checklists instead of walls of text. Free users get GPT-6 Luna and paid users get GPT-6 Sol. For everyday work, try asking for a tool or a plan rather than a paragraph, and see what Intelligent UI builds.
